Prep your magical hair and your green frog cause it’s time to make a sleeve for a Rapunzel costume!

What you need:

  • Purple fabric

  • Pink trimming

  • Pink ruffle trim

  • Pink see-through fabric (stretchy is best!)

This tutorial is only for the sleeves for the sleeves, not the entire Rapunzel cosplay, I hope to be able to upload the entire walk-through at a later date!

Step 1: The Puffed Part

Cut out two short sleeves by either making your own pattern or altering one to work. In order to create your own pattern, you'll want to create an bell shape, but elongate the top part so it's larger (and poofier) when you sew it in. Then cut your fabric on the fold so you have two curved sleeves.

Next, create lines of trim about an inch apart from each other going down vertically across the sleeve. This creates the detailing in the top part of the puff sleeve. From there, pin each of the strips down and sew across your machine on either side of the trim so it's fixed on there.

Once you have that down, create a gather stitch across the top of the sleeve to evenly created a bunched look and sew down the length of the sleeve, creating the circular sleeve. Then pin it to the inside of your bodice and sew.

The last part to finish is to sew a pink trimp along the bottom portion of the sleeve. This will separate the puffy part of the sleeve with the second half, as well as add a fun detail!

Now, you're halfway through finishing the sleeve!

Step 2: The Bottom Half

For this, you will need two rectangular pieces of pink see-through fabric that fit around your arms. If you have stretchy fabric, this is best as you can measure it directly to your arm width. If your fabric has no stretch (as mine is pictured above), you will need to allocate an extra inch to be able to comfortably take it on and off.

Sew your rectangles in half and sew them where the pink trim and bottom half of the sleeve meet. After you're done, the final step is to sew another pink trim where at the end of the sleeve (where your wrist is).

With this, your Rapunzel bodice is complete!
